CapLocal does not run a cloud account or upload your transcript to our servers. Captions and saves stay in this browser (localStorage / download).

Speech recognition uses the browser’s Web Speech API (best-effort):

• Prefer on-device when the browser supports it — audio never needs to leave the phone for recognition.
• Some browsers still send audio to a vendor speech service (common on Chrome desktop / some mobile builds). CapLocal cannot force on-device mode; that is controlled by the browser and OS.
• We never create an account, analytics pipeline, or remote save for your words.

For guaranteed on-device models (e.g. Whisper-class native), see the product roadmap in the repo handover notes — not required for this free core.

Browser not supported

Live captions need the Web Speech API. Chrome (Android or desktop) works best. Safari and Firefox have limited or no continuous recognition.
